What is Hot Stone Massage?
Hot stone massage is a specialised massage that uses smooth, heated stones. The stone we used are basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well, but other types can also be used. The hardness of the stones allows our therapist to address specific problem areas with more detailed work or deeper pressure. The heat is deeply relaxing, helping tight muscles to release.
When the heat from the stones relaxes your muscles, an increase in blood flow to the area being worked on further accelerates the healing process. This increase in circulation, alongside the muscles’ release, aids in mental relaxation as well as physical. Mental relaxation is key when a therapist is attempting to work into the deeper muscles of the body.
Before you arrive, our qualified therapist sanitizes the stones in 120 to 150 degree water. She tests the temperature before placing onto your body and after, she will clean and sanitize them again. This sanitizing is done with every treatment performed.
During the massage, the therapist warms up the body using oil with traditional Swedish massage, then massages you with the heated stone. The warmth and pressure are adjusted to your preferences. As the stone cools, our therapist replaces it with another.
Our therapist might also leave heated stones in specific points along your spine, in the palms of your hand, on your belly, or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy in your body.
